You've probably noticed a few recent changes, and hopefully haven't noticed one of them. Here they are, all ready for your positive or negative comments. We'll listen. Really. And if enough people don't like something, we'll definitely take notice.

1. The quicknote edit box has been changed to be like the ones used in board posts. The idea is that this should be easier for people who want to review what they've said. If this is working for you, let us know. If it's not, let us know.

2. If you click on one of the logged in users' names at the top of the page, their profile will open in a new window. This was actually supposed to be implemented a long time ago but due to a spelling error in the HTML it was not. I noticed it so fixed it today. Like? Not like? Post.

3. Speed improvements. The site has been rather slow recently. Even us unobservant admins have noticed that (finally). I'm working on queries and surrounding code to improve eficiency. I've started with the quicknotes, since they're used on nearly all page loads, and they should be a small bit faster. You shouldn't notice any changes other than maybe slightly faster response; if you do see anything strange, let us know.

4. HTML. You can use the b, br, i, p, and u tags in board posts to mark up your posts. You can use all but br in quicknotes. Use these to mark up your text in pleasant ways. Use them otherwise and watch as your html code seases to work.

Thanks for reading.

I've seen some places now where the links are automatically activeated when you post the url without html code. So say I were to type a url here, and submit it without html. Before it'd just show as text. If you were to impiment this idea, once you submit and the window shows your post the link is automatically ready for clickable use. I do like the idea of profiles in another window because if I want to just look at the last board post they put up I'd have to right click on the link and click on open in new window. This way I can concentrate on whatever content I wanted to read about the user. I've also noticed the quick note box a bit larger. Other then that no problems and like what I see.

I've noticed that when sending quick notes to people, I would hit enter or space bar on the send button and it still wouldn't send.. I am not sure if anyone else is experiencing that difficulty, but I just thought I'd say that.

I like this thing with the quicknotes very much. It's good. I haven't realized the others yet.

As for opening profiles in another window, I hadn't noticed, but I look forward to it because I always open them in another window anyways...And there is an easier way then right clicking, you should be able to highligh the link and then hold down the "shift" key and press enter. Hope this helps for future use. *smile*

Post 8 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Wednesday, 14-Sep-2005 3:26:08

The edit field in qn is much nicer in my opinion thanks Chris. Some will complain until they get used to tabbing before hitting enter.

i like the quick not thing it's really coolio

Post 11 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 14-Sep-2005 4:08:07

I hate the profile thing being in a new window not really the idea but if we put just the profile in the window it would be good we dont need the link to the home page the logged in users or the quick notes just the profile links and of course the profile. Maybe this can be done.

Post 12 by Inesle1987 (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 14-Sep-2005 4:10:36

Hmmmm yeah that'S true.

Post 13 by Inesle1987 (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 14-Sep-2005 4:12:34

And it is a good thing though, because you can still be on the boards or somewhere else at the same time and don't have to go back through "zone bbs home".

Hmm, don't really like the quicknote thing. It's annoying. The profile in new window, I reckon I'll get used too... I mean, it annoyed me at first, but I can see why it'd be useful...

I like the qn thing, now, we can type multiple lines of text, that is always a good thing. anyway, as for the profiles in a new window, I think that is excellent, no having to go the long way around, yay!

Rachel the same happens to me but I am getting used to it.

I have one comment on the profiles in the new window change. It's nice but I think they should be kept completely separate from the quick nots. You notice now that when you open a user's profile in a new window the quick notes are still active in that window (I believe both that window as well as the "original" one or the parents window). I think the user profile should contain only the user profile and not the other information, it'll simplify viewing it a little bit and I think it's a pretty minor code change, just a suggestion.
Cheers

Post 21 by Texas Shawn (The cute, cuddley, little furr ball) on Friday, 16-Sep-2005 9:52:58

I don't know if this is part of the qn changed bugs. But when I get on sometimes like now when I send a qn, the page updates and the sounds jingles but the old qn's are still there. strange!

Post 22 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Friday, 16-Sep-2005 9:58:10

that's happend to me but i just go rite ahead and refresh the page.

Post 23 by Formula1 1999 (B & B forever!!) on Friday, 16-Sep-2005 14:53:26

I like the qn change. However, I think that the profile in a new windown gets confusing. I saw the suggestion already, but I think if it was just the profile in a new window it would be a bit nicer.

Post 24 by louiano (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Friday, 16-Sep-2005 20:06:21

hmm proflies in new windows are kinda weird, but the quicknote thing is better. If the sound thing happens to you, just wait since the sound arrived first than the text, you should if you want press escape. This will tell your brouser to stop downloading the page, and you should be reading the new quicknotes.

How is the pop-up profile window now? Sounds like what most people wanted.

I really don't like it. As others said, The Profile can be opened up on their own turms with Shift-Enter, if they want to take advantage. So Honestly, I don't think that's such a great idea.

Post 29 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 17-Sep-2005 23:17:30

well, for a long time, I pressed the tab key to the send button, even when you could press enter, so pressing tab again to send a quicknote doesn't bother me in the least. I went in to that quicknote console thing, and turned public qns on briefly to see how it worked, and I found it very nice and interesting that the qns were separate from other things, like board messages, other stuff, etc, at least that's how it looked to me. As far as receiving qns, that worked like it always does. I read where it notifies you when a quicknote has been received, but I was thinking it meant when you receive qns, not when you send one, so I will have to turn public notes on again quickly to see how that works. Last night, it didn't give me any confirmation that my quicknotes were being sent, so until someone answered something I said, I wasn't sure they were getting through, and just hoped it wasn't on my end. I don't look at user profiles enough for the new browser window to make much difference one way or the other.

I don't like this command alt q thing! If that is the quicknotes thing everyone is talking about, definite thumbs down! It gets in the way when I'm playing anagrams and I have to go past it every time to get to what I want, the word edit field. I just come here to play games, not to make friends as I have plenty off the net. I don't necessarily mean that I'm unfriendly, it's just that it isn't my purpose here. Reader

Post 31 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Monday, 10-Oct-2005 18:42:40

Actually, that was put in later on. Maybe we need a hot key to jump to the anagram word box? Would that work?
